Arabian Bread Pudding is a delightful and rich dessert made with a perfect combination of bread, custard milk, cream, and dry fruits. This dish is considered one of the traditional sweets of the Middle East and has gained worldwide popularity due to its velvety texture and sweet, aromatic flavor.
In this recipe, bread slices are soaked in custard and layered with a creamy mixture, creating an incredibly soft and indulgent dessert. It is then chilled in the refrigerator, which enhances its flavors even more.
This dessert is an ideal choice for Iftar, Ramadan, Eid, or any special occasion. The best part is that it requires minimal ingredients and time to prepare, yet the taste is so irresistible that once you try it, you’ll want to make it again and again!

For the Base:
Bread slices – 8 to 10 slices (edges trimmed)
Milk – 750 ml (approximately 3 cups)
Custard powder – 3 tablespoons
Water – ½ cup (to dissolve the custard)
Sugar – ½ cup (adjust as per taste)
For the Creamy Layer:
Fresh cream or heavy whipping cream – 1 cup
Condensed milk – ½ cup (If condensed milk is not available, mix milk powder and sugar as an alternative)
Vanilla essence – 1 teaspoon (optional)
For Garnishing:
Dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios) – finely chopped
Saffron strands – a few
Pistachio powder – for decoration
First, take a pan and pour 750 ml of milk into it. Heat it on medium flame.
Once the milk comes to a boil, add ½ cup sugar and mix well.
Now, dissolve 3 tablespoons of custard powder in ½ cup water, ensuring there are no lumps
Slowly pour this custard mixture into the milk while continuously stirring to prevent lumps from forming.
Cook the mixture until the milk becomes slightly thick and creamy.
Once the custard milk is ready, remove it from the heat and let it cool down to room temperature.
Tip: If you want extra flavor, add a pinch of cardamom powder or saffron strands to the custard milk.
Take a bowl and add 1 cup of fresh cream.
Pour ½ cup of condensed milk into it and mix well.
If you like, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence for extra flavor.
Place this mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes to chill.
Tip: If you don’t have condensed milk, mix ¼ cup milk powder and 2 tablespoons of sugar asa substitute.
Take a baking dish or any flat container.
Trim the edges of the bread slices and arrange them neatly in the dish.
Pour the custard milk over the bread slices, ensuring they are fully soaked.
Now, add a layer of the creamy mixture that we prepared with condensed milk and cream.
Sprinkle some chopped dry fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios) on top.
Add another layer of bread slices and again pour custard milk over them so that the bread absorbs it completely.
Top it with another creamy layer and garnish with dry fruits and saffron strands.
Tip: For an extra delicious taste, lightly toast the bread in butter before layering. This enhances the texture and flavor of the pudding.
Cover the dish tightly with cling wrap or a lid.
Place it in the fridge for at least 2 hours so it sets properly.
If you’re short on time, you can keep it in the freezer for 30 minutes, but don’t leave it for too long, or it will freeze.
Once it’s completely chilled, take it out and get ready to serve.
Tip: If you prefer a slightly different texture, you can bake it at 180°C for 10 minutes for aunique twist.
Take out the chilled Arabian Bread Pudding and sprinkle pistachio powder on top.
You can also drizzle a few drops of honey for an extra touch of sweetness.
Serve it cold and fresh, and let everyone enjoy this delicious treat at Iftar or Eid celebrations!
